GET TO KNOW ME
Hello and welcome to an everchanging digital portfolio of my work!
A little bit about me. I was born in Odessa, Ukraine on the edge of the Black Sea and for as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with stories. Growing up between Ukraine and the United States I acquired insight on a variety of people, traditions, and cultures. Although the experience of traveling and moving exposed me to so much of the world, I could never determine where I found myself at home. That was until I found synchronized swimming. What started as a curious venture into an unusual sport, quickly became my main outlet of expression. Through artistic swimming I learned the art of visual storytelling.

In high school I decided to give theater a shot and quickly became enamored with the process of directing. Everything I learned throughout my swimming career seamlessly translated onto the stage. I learned directing, choreography, set design, lighting, costuming, and musical arrangement. As I delved into the world of directing, I discovered photography and videography. Unable to decide between the stage and the screen, I chose to further my skills in both, pursuing them simultaneously.

I continued my education at Pace University studying Film and Russian Translation. Throughout my time in college I explored film theory and have developed my skills in cinematography, shot listing, storyboarding, directing, editing, screenwriting, and playwriting. I even started exploring underwater cinematography in homage to my career as a synchronized swimmer.
Over the years I have directed and dp'd countless short films (Total Eclipse, A Bird To Bury, Violet...), created one long form documentary (In Ordinary Ink), worked on two feature films (Z-Grade, Burn Everything), explored the art of video essay, utilized my artistic skillset in production design and art direction (Charles & His Office, Z-Grade, The Gesuidouz), collaborated with brands (Tru Protein, Spyoptic, Fontainhas), developed a skillset in social media management (Heather Rae Young), and directed for the stage (Ghost Quartet, Ride The Cyclone). Upcoming projects include DESCENT (an underwater short film), SLAPHAPPY, and SITRUS

I don't know where this journey of visual storytelling will take me, but I am beyond excited to continue sharing it with you.

All the best,
Veronika Orlovska
